For Square venues

Your real wage percentage, live from Square

Square tells you what you sold. ShiftPlate puts it next to what your team actually costs — salaried staff included, with employer on-costs — so your wage percentage is a number you can run the week on.

Why the till's labour figure looks better than it is

A POS labour report is built from clocked hours times an hourly rate. The head chef and the general manager on a fixed salary often don't clock in at all, and employer National Insurance, pension contributions and holiday pay sit outside it. Leave those out and the percentage looks healthy right up until the month's payroll lands.

What you get on top of Square

Wage % that counts salaried staff

Fixed monthly salaries are spread across the days they cover, hourly pay is costed from the hours actually worked, and both land in one labour figure next to that day's sales.

The true cost of an hour

Employer costs are set per venue: employer NI, workplace pension and holiday pay for UK teams, or a flat employer-cost percentage in Spain. The rota and the dashboard show the same real-cost number.

Live from Square

Connect with your Square login. Sales, product mix and staff hours from timecards stream in within minutes of each sale, and your history is backfilled when you connect.

Rotas costed before you publish

Build the week and see what it will cost against forecast sales as you go — so you can cut a shift on Tuesday instead of finding out at month end.

GP on every dish and cocktail

Recipe costs update from your supplier invoices, and margins are worked out against what Square says you actually sold.

Every location, one view

Each Square location becomes its own venue with its own rota and costs, and a group overview compares them side by side.

How it works

  1. 1

    Connect Square

The owner signs in with Square from Settings. No hardware and nothing to install on the till.

  2. 2

    Bring your team across

Import your team from Square once, then add salaries and contract hours in ShiftPlate.

  3. 3

    Get your first brief

Pepper sends a morning brief the next day, and you can ask it anything about your sales, costs and rota.

Questions

How is labour cost percentage calculated?

Labour cost for a period divided by sales for the same period, times 100. ShiftPlate's labour cost includes salaried staff and employer on-costs, not just clocked hourly pay, so it is usually higher than a till's own report — and closer to what payroll will actually cost you.

Does it work with Square for Restaurants and Square POS?

Yes. ShiftPlate connects to your Square account rather than to a particular app, so it reads the same sales, items and timecards whichever Square app your team uses at the till.

Does a pay change in Square update ShiftPlate?

No. The team import is a one-off, so new starters, leavers and pay rises are managed in ShiftPlate from then on. That keeps salaried pay and contract hours in one place, where the labour figure is worked out.

Why don't I see covers or spend per head?

Square doesn't record guest counts, so ShiftPlate shows average spend per ticket instead rather than guessing at covers.

Which countries do you support?

Venues in the United Kingdom and Spain, with money in pounds or euros and each country's working-time and employer-cost rules. Venues in the United States aren't supported yet.
